who is

barba Danilo?

Barba (uncle) Danilo, now an “active” pensioner, has left a deep imprint in his
50 years of engagement in Rovinj’s hospitality industry.

He started on the Red Island
near Rovinj in 1964 and decided to continue his career
in the gastronomy. A good part of his career was spent in
at that time Jadran-turist (today Maistra) and in 1994 he opened
his first private restaurant…

is the first thing that Danilo will say to his team and repeat it frequently.

Our philosophy is maybe best described in the gastro guide “Le Truffle”:

The food is exciting, authentic and ingredients are not too expensive. Dishes come in interesting combinations and presentation is attractive. Barba Danilo’s cooking follows multiple directions and genres: tapas, slow food, bistro and fine dining. Playing with modern cooking techniques, they still preserve some traditions. It’s not all impeccable, but we give a thumbs up.

We’ve also put in a lot of effort in planning our tavern’s decoration. We respected quiet a lot the principles of the typical Istrian architecture and we succeeded to create a very pleasant ambiance whose atmosphere and appearance our guests regularly praise.

Istria & wine?


We love wine, white, red and rosé, dry and sweet,
light and heavy…

We appreciate most of the Istrian winemakers, with many of whom we personally know and have a good collaboration, furthermore our wine list is frequently changing. We always like to have several fresh, as well as some aged malvasia, various cuvee, chardonnay and other white wines, while reds are especially precious to us…
We will always find for you some good teran, cabernet
or top cuvee.

Considering the food we are preparing for you, we’ll be happy to
recommend the perfect wine pairing…

On the other hand, we love digestives as well, both domestic and foreign. Beside almost all the typical Istrian brandy and liqueurs, we have some foreign quality drinks like gin, whiskey, bourbon, rum and cognac.

Aside from using only top-quality Rovinj’s olive oil for cooking, we aim to provide you at least a couple of first class oils by the servings. We will always serve you beside the meals at least two types of oil like Nono Remido, Dobravac, Matosevic… It’s not only that you can taste them, we have prepared a sales corner and you can buy the same oil directly from us.

The restaurant “Barba Danilo” is located next to the campsite Ulika, 3 km away from the center of Rovinj.
It’s enough to follow the signs for the Resort Villas Rubin or the campsite Polari.
